XBeach Basic Modeling ($850)

Basic course in Morphodynamic Modelling during Storm

Starts Apr 1, 2025
850 US dollars
MS Teams

Service Description

Join our XBeach Modeling course to gain essential skills in simulating hydrodynamics and morphological changes on coasts affected by storms and daily conditions. XBeach, an open-source software developed by Deltares, IHE Delft, and Delft University of Technology, provides powerful tools to model sandy, gravel, coral, vegetated, and urbanized coasts under both extreme and normal conditions. What You’ll Learn This course combines theory and hands-on practice to equip participants with the knowledge needed to set up and run morphodynamic models with XBeach. You will: • Understand the three hydrodynamic modes of XBeach: stationary, surfbeat, and non-hydrostatic. • Learn the surfbeat mode’s formulations for simulating dune erosion and overwash. • Explore advanced applications such as coral reefs, gravel beaches, vegetated coasts, and ship waves. • Set up an XBeach-surfbeat model from scratch to simulate nearshore hydrodynamics during storm conditions. • Know what XBeach input and output files look like and how to use them for research or consultancy. Who Should Attend? This course is intended for: • Project engineers, researchers, and PhD students with basic programming skills (e.g., in Python, MATLAB, or Fortran). If you are interested in morphodynamics and coastal modeling, this course will help you apply XBeach for storm impact studies and coastal consulting projects. Course Format and Dates This online course includes self-paced learning and instructor-led sessions, providing both flexibility and expert guidance. Online sessions: • Session 1: Tuesday, April 1, 2025 – 9AM PT / 12PM ET to 1PM PT / 4PM ET • Session 2: Thursday, April 3, 2025 – 9AM PT / 12PM ET to 1PM PT / 4PM ET The course is limited to 10 participants per trainer to ensure individual support and time for Q&A. Preparation and Technical Requirements Before the course, participants will receive: • XBeach software and course materials. System Requirements: • Windows OS computer (required for XBeach).
