Service Description

The Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite (Delft3D FM) is the successor of the structured Delft3D 4 Suite. The Delft3D FM Suite can simulate storm surges, typhoons/hurricanes, tsunamis, detailed flows and water levels, waves, sediment transport and morphology, water quality and ecology and is capable of handling the interactions between these processes. The key component of Delft3D FM is the D-Flow Flexible Mesh (D-Flow FM) engine for hydrodynamical simulations on unstructured and structured grids in 1D-2D-3D. D-Flow FM is the successor of Delft3D-FLOW and SOBEK-1DFLOW. Course objective During this Delft3D FM course, attendees will gain a basic theoretical understanding of Delft3D FM hydrodynamic capabilities and functionalities. Moreover, attendees will learn how to apply the software for research or consultancy studies to simulate hydrodynamics. Learning outcomes When utilizing Delft3D FM for modeling, attendees will be able to retrieve theoretical and practical knowledge gained in this course. Theoretical: attendees understand • Difference between the different modules of the model suite • The advantages and disadvantages of different meshes/grids • The basic assumptions behind Delft3D Flexible Mesh Practical: attendees will know • How to create a mesh and matching bed levels • Set up a hydrodynamic simulation in Deltashell • Inspect and analyze model results Who should participate This course is aimed at project engineers, researchers, PhD students with background knowledge in hydrodynamics (e.g. you know what a tide and storm surge are). Online format We’ll be providing an online version of this course. We will have interactive sessions with a Q&A. By keeping the session intimate (with only 10 participants per trainer), we can ensure there is enough time and attention for all questions and discussions. The use of Windows is required for the Delft3D courses. For the Technical Specifications of the Delft3D FM Suite. In preparation of the training, we’ll send you all the material and will ask you to install the stand-alone Delft3D Flexible Mesh application on your own machine. While attending the training, it will be essential that you have a sufficiently fast internet connection to support a video call, as well as a headset.
